THE
SKIN AND HYPERPIGMENTATION SPOTS
With age and repeated exposure, hyperpigmentation
spots may appear on the face, the decollete or the back of the hands. This phenomenon is
due to a disorder of the pigmentary system. In fact, the number of melanocytes gradually
diminishes with age but the reduction does not always occur evenly. Thus, on areas
frequently exposed to UV rays, the highly stimulated melanocytes clump together to form
areas of localized hyperpigmentation.
Unlike normal pigmentation, which fades little by little when
exposer to sunlight is reduced, these hyperpigmentation spots are lasting. In addition to
effective protection from the sun, these problems require specific and intensive
treatments.
THE SKIN AND
PIGMENTATION
All skins do not have the same natural
pigmentation, in other words the same capacity to synthesize melanin (a pigment secreted
by specialized cells, the melanocytes, to color the skin and thus protect it from UV
rays).
In darker skin, the melanocytes are very numerous. They produce
large, dark (brown/balck) pigments.
The reverse is true in regions less exposed to the sun's rays,
where light skin has fewer, smaller melanocytes, with variable protective capacity. These
skins are thus more vulnerable to UV rays.
To curb pigmentation, no matter what the skin type, the first
rule is to block the UV rays with the help of sunscreens.
THREE
LIGHTENING ACTIONS
1.
REDUCE PIGMENT PRODUCTION.
Vitamin C inhibits the production of
melanin pigments (melanogenesis) and helps eliminate toxins to brighten and lighten the
skin.
2. PROMOTE LIGHTENING OF PIGMENTS.
The Clariderm complex inhibits the
production of brown and black melanin pigments in favor of colorless pigments and blocks
photo-induced production of free radicals.
3. PROTECT THE SKIN FROM THE SUN'S IMPACT.
Newlight Lightening Cream and
foundations contain sun filters to help prevent untra-violet rays from stimulating the
melanocytes.
